Audrey + Sam’s Playful, Romantic Engagement Session in Big Cottonwood Canyon

Audrey + Sam are the definition of sweet, playful, and perfectly in sync. They first met while attending BYU, and from the start it was clear these two just… fit. Sam (who, fun fact, is 6’7”!) is incredibly intuitive and patient, always in tune with Audrey and her feelings. And Audrey? She brings so much light and joy into every moment — together they just radiate love.
When it came time for the proposal, Sam went all out. He popped the question at a lake, setting up a rope swing and making it so cute and personal. Naturally, she said yes! 💍 They’re now counting down the days until they say “I do” at the Oquirrh Mountain LDS Temple.
Why Big Cottonwood Canyon?
For their engagement photos, they wanted a location that had a little bit of everything — and Big Cottonwood Canyon absolutely delivered. We had:

⛰ Majestic mountain views
🌲 Towering evergreens
🌼 Summer wildflowers (including a patch of sunflowers just for Audrey 💛)
🌉 A charming wooden bridge
In July, the weather couldn’t have been more perfect — low 70s with golden sunset light starting around 7:30pm and carrying into that dreamy blue-hour glow.
the outfits + the vibe
Audrey kept it classic and chic with white pants, nude heels, and a black top. Sam matched her clean style with dark jeans and a crisp white polo. Together, they had that perfect “effortless but elevated” look that photographs so well.
Their goal? Romantic, playful images they could use for their save-the-dates and hang in their home. They sent over a Pinterest board with a few must-have poses (pro tip for all my couples — this is so helpful!) and trusted me to fill in the rest with candid, natural prompts.
Favorite Moments
Some of my favorite shots from the session were the ones where they forgot about the camera — laughing together, holding each other close, and just being them.
One stand-out moment: I spotted the moon rising and got down low for a shot of them kissing with the moon framed perfectly above. It felt straight out of a movie.
And, of course, the sunflower moment. Audrey’s face lit up when we found a little patch hidden in the canyon — it was so her. 🌻
The Final Look
The gallery is full of greens, soft natural light, and that blend of romance and playfulness that makes their love story so unique. My hope is that anyone looking at these photos can picture themselves right there in the moment — walking through the fields, laughing in the golden light, and feeling completely at home with the person they love.
