What to Wear for Your Engagement or Couples Photos | Chasing Robins Media

Okay besties—let’s talk outfits! 🎉 Whether you’re getting ready for your engagement shoot or just want some updated couples pics, what you wear seriously sets the tone. And I totally get it—picking the right outfit can feel overwhelming. So I’m here to make it easy, fun, and actually stress-free 🙌

I help all my couples with this part (yep, you’ll get inspo, examples, and a full guide when you book!) but here’s a peek into what I recommend to make your session look chef’s kiss 💋✨

👗 1. Wear Something You Can Move In

If you can’t sit, spin, run, or snuggle in it—it’s not the vibe. Your session will be full of movement and playful prompts, so your outfit should feel comfortable and confident. Trust me, it makes a HUGE difference in how natural you look in the photos.

✅ Yes: flowy dresses, soft fabrics, jeans that move with you
❌ No: super tight, stiff, or itchy clothes

🎨 2. Go for Neutrals & Earthy Tones

Bright colors or tiny patterns can be distracting in photos. Instead, opt for soft, muted tones that complement the setting. Think:

Terracotta, cream, olive, tan, dusty blue, soft pinks, mustard

Layers and textures like linen, knits, denim, cotton = chef’s kiss 🍝

If we’re shooting in the mountains, fields, or on the beach, neutrals let YOU shine and match the location beautifully.

👬 3. Coordinate—Don’t Match!

No need to twin. In fact… please don’t. 😅 Choose outfits that complement each other in color and vibe, but aren’t exactly the same.

Ex: She wears a white linen top + flowy skirt, he wears khakis + a soft beige or light blue button-up.

Layer it up, mix textures, and keep the colors in the same family = magic.

🥾 4. Shoes Matter (But Go Barefoot If You Want!)

Cute boots? YES. Chunky sneakers? Yes. Sandals? Maybe. Heels? Eh, maybe not unless we’re going glam.

Hot tip: Barefoot on the beach, in the river, or even in the grass? Always a mood. 🌊🌿

💫 5. Add Movement or Meaning

Things that add extra emotion or visual interest:

Something sentimental—like a piece of jewelry or a shirt you borrowed on your first date 🥹

A flowy dress that catches the wind

A hat you can play with

A jacket to wrap around each other

📸 6. Bonus Tips for Styling Like a Pro:

Avoid logos or loud prints

Clean up shoes (or go barefoot)

A flowy dress that catches the wind

Steam your clothes the night before

Bring one extra outfit just in case! All of my packages actually allow as many outfits as you want, but keep in mind that it needs to stay in the timeline!!
